The 15th Anniversary edition of the publication in English of the work that more than any other has formed and directed the worldwide discussion of liberation theology.

In addition to re-editing for inclusive language, Fr. Gutierrez himself revised a key section of his masterwork, and added a new essay that reviews the evolution of liberation theology, delineating key themes of the present and future. As he writes in this new essay, "My book is a love letter to God, to the church and to the people to which I belong. Love remains alive, but grows deeper and changes its manner of expression."

Named by Christianity Today as one of the most influential books of the 20th century, A Theology of Liberation remains the single most lucid, direct and powerful statement of the heart of liberation theology.

Gustavo Gutierrez, theologian and Dominican priest, is a native of Peru and was educated in Lima, Chile, and at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. He has taught around the world including at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and is currently the John Cardinal O'Hara Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. His many books include On Job: God-Talk and the Suffering of the Innocent and We Drink from Our Own Wells.
