Father Alex Zanotelli, an Italian missionary priest, served for many years among the poorest of the poor in a slum in Nairobi. Over time, his beloved community shared their hearts and lives with him and ultimately “commissioned” him to minister to and evangelize the members of the white world whose systems of oppression continue to harm so many in African countries and the Global South. Written during the COVID-19 epidemic Letter to the White World fulfills that commission.
Alex Zanotelli, mccj, served for sixty years as a member of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus. The author of several books in Italian, he’s taught and ministered in Sudan, Italy, and Nairobi and currently serves with the Parish of the Basilica of Santa Maria Della Sanità in the poorest district of Naples on profound social problems of, and in service to, marginalized communities in the Sanità district: the homeless, migrants, and the Roma. He has founded and been the inspiration for various movements for peace and social justice.
