This story is told by Mary MacKillop’s pet dog, Bobs. Bobs introduces the reader to two Sisters of Saint Joseph, one being Saint Mary MacKillop herself and the other is Sister Paula. He tells how Sister Paula befriended him, helped him make Mary’s life enjoyable, while she was dependent on a wheelchair to get around.
Bobs shares with the reader how he felt when Mary died, how Sister Paula helped him to keep memories of Mary alive as they made a new home together in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
Diane Phillips is a Sister of Saint Joseph living in Queensland. She has written sacramental programmes for primary aged children and some years ago published a book of stories about Saint Mary MacKillop’s encounters with horses called Horse Tales of Mary MacKillop. For the past twenty years Diane has lived and worked in rural parishes of the Toowoomba Diocese where she initiated MacKillop Clubs in some former Josephite schools. She began writing stories to provide club mentors and teachers with materials about Saint Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods. Diane hopes that this story about a dog’s devotion to Mary will bring joy to all its readers.
