Strong Foundations is a Catholic values-based program designed to prepare engaged couples for the hard work of creating a loving marriage with God at its center. While this program can’t ensure a lifetime of marital perfection, it will realistically address the issues important for a lasting marriage. Couples will learn about themselves and their partners in a way few couples experience prior to marriage. In addition, they will learn the basic skills needed to handle the normal (and not-so-normal) transitions involved in marriage. Within the pages of this book, they will also find many of the issues our Catholic Bishops want couples to consider before making their marriage commitment.
Together participants will look at core values as a couple; their readiness to make their marriage a genuine choice; your need to Communicate and resolve conflicts; and the challenges they will be facing and sharing—with God’s help. The practical worksheets provided here will help couples look at all these issues and consider them seriously as they begin building the strong foundations that will sustain and enrich their marriages.
Holly Carbo and Mandi Chapman are both Nationally Certified Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Professional Counselors. Holly is married to Michael and has four children, Briggs, Emily, Ben, and LG. Mandi is married to Kevin and has three children, Lily, Oliver, and Simon. Since the spring of 2010, they have been using Strong Foundations with couples in the Diocese of Alexandria Louisiana, with the blessing of the local bishop.
