When Jesus spoke to his followers in his ‘sermon on the mount’, he offered them eight Beatitudes, or blessings, to live by. But what are the Beatitudes? And how are they relevant to our lives today? The Beatitudes are like a code of behaviour. They talk about things that are life-giving and that restore balance in the world. They give us a sense of value in our lives. The Beatitudes offer us a pathway to a better world for all, from making simple changes to taking bigger actions. Pope Francis describes the Beatitudes as ‘a plan for life and the way to holiness’.
