The archangel Raphael’s name is likely derived from the Hebrew words for “medicine doctor” and “God heals the soul.” Both of these translations are appropriate because Raphael’s healing mission is for both the body and the mind. We see this in scripture when he says, “…the Lord has sent me to heal you, and to deliver Sara your son’s wife from the devil. For I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord.” Raphael continues his mission to this day.
